Description:
The Center for Global Justice seeks a well-organized and self-motivated Executive Director to oversee operations in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for a two-year commitment beginning 1 April 2010. The Executive Director will be responsible for supporting and overseeing all operations, including the successful implementation and development of the Center’s three primary programs: a summer student research internship, popular education programs for visiting North American and Latin American groups, and ongoing grassroots economic organizing in the San Miguel area.
Job Responsibilities:
· Manage all operations, including coordinating, training, and overseeing volunteer and paid staff
· Serve as the fundraising coordinator, including maintaining communication with membership, developing grassroots fundraising initiatives, and developing foundation contacts and proposals
· Plan and implement programs, including coordinating logistics with visiting groups, developing web and print materials for promotion, and working with volunteer committees for successful implementation
· Assist the Board of Directors in their organizational development including recruitment, orientation, and the development of an effective and sustainable executive and board governance structure
· Help to grow the organization’s presence among solidarity economy practitioners in Mexico and the United States as well as among non-profit, academic, and activist communities
· Manage all communications, including maintaining an updated website and membership and alumni database as well as serving as the spokesperson for the Center
Additional Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have experience developing, implementing and promoting programs, coordinating fundraising, managing volunteers and paid staff, operating in non-hierarchical participatory governance structures, and developing and maintaining cross-border solidarity work. A strong background in solidarity economy theory and practice is preferred. The successful candidate will also speak and write English and Spanish fluently and be accustomed to operating in cross-cultural situations. Please note the final interview will be conducted in Spanish.
Experience developing organizational structures that model the just and sustainable future we seek to create is highly valued, as is the ability to clearly articulate a vision for the solidarity economy in Mexico, the United States, and throughout the Americas. The successful candidate will understand how to efficiently and effectively lead a democratic organization while also building a movement that will help to sustain not only the organization’s values, but also the organizational structure. We are looking for someone who can act as an organizer, strategist, leader, manager, fundraiser, public speaker, and educator. Extra points if you have a sense of humor too.
